Newbury Geological Study Group (NGSG)   | How we are run

We are a voluntary non profit making organisation. Dr. Leslie James is not the leader of the trips, but attends in the role of Geological Consultant. He provides his time free of charge, but  we do pay him expenses for some trips. Our Insurance (taken out via the Geologists’ Association) covers the group against claims by third parties and members. It

Is only valid in the UK and Channel Islands .

Our accounting year runs from 1 February to 31 January. The accounts are presented at the AGM which normally takes place in July at the last meeting of the season.  The main costs we have are GA Membership and  Insurance,  and the cost of our Internet site. Income is entirely from the £5.00 paid by members for each trip.  

We run almost entirely via email and the web site.  Members without email can contact us by phone at 01635 42190.

Currently we have around 40 members, mainly in the Newbury and Didcot area.

We also subscribe to a bulk supply of the quarterly Down to Earth Geological Magazine. These are distributed to  members attending trips.
